Romanian Tudor Purice secured the biggest win of his career with victory in the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship, defeating Aleks Apryan heads-up to win $183,270 after topping a field of 1,202 players.
Purice came into the final table second in chips behind Yurii Senchylo, and bided his time before timing his assault on the chip lead perfectly to dominate the latter stages and secure victory, along with a seat to the WPT Championship this December.
Place | Player | Payout (USD) |
---|---|---|
1 | Tudor Purice | $183,270 |
2 | Aleksandre Apryan | $115,250 |
3 | Yurii Senchylo | $86,000 |
4 | Eduard Bagrov | $64,000 |
5 | Emile Abi-Daher | $48,500 |
6 | Aleksandr Denishev | $37,000 |
7 | Ioan Abrudan | $28,500 |
8 | Samuel Klocker | $22,200 |
9 | Umit Sadi | $17,400 |
As the start-of-day short stack with just six big blinds, it felt like only a matter of time before Umit Sadi got his last chips in. He eventually shoved with J♥J♠and was called by the A♠8♦of Emile Abi-Daher, only for Abi-Daher to spike a jack and send Sadi to the rail.
That moved Abi-Daher above Purice in the chip counts, but Aleks Apryan doubled through him to stop any further upward progression. Samuel Klocker was felted by Aleks Denishev, before Denishev traded doubles with Eduard Bagrov.

There was no room to hide at this table, with everyone getting in on the action, but despite this Senchylo still held the lead. Purice kept the pressure up with the elimination of Ioan Abrudan in seventh place, and kicked on to move into the lead.
A Bagrov double through Purice didn't harm him, as he now held twice the chips of second-place Senchylo with six players remaining.
Denishev then lost out with top pair to the flopped two pair of Bagrov to bust, before Purice send both Abi-Daher and Bagrov to the rail to amass an enormous chip lead.
And that grew further with the elimination of Senchylo, with Purice's A♣Q♦up against Senchylo's K♣K♦. Purice turned an ace to take the lead and held to send Senchylo to the rail. Holding 97% of the chips in play heads-up, it took one hand to eliminate Apryan to be crowned winner of the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship.
